The County Treasurer is Nancy Clubine. The Treasurer serves a four year term after being elected in November of the Presidential Election year and takes office in October of the following year.

The Independence Tag office is located on the main floor in the Courthouse in Independence. The office hours are 8:00am – 4:00pm. Title transactions are not processed after 3pm. Commercial transactions are no longer processed. The phone number is 620-330-1100.
The Coffeyville Tag Satellite office is located at 128 W 8th in Coffeyville. The office hours are 9:00am – 4:00pm. Title transactions are not processed after 3:00pm. Commercial transactions are no longer processed. The phone number is 620-251-0830.
The County Treasurer is responsible for tax billing, collection and distribution of tax money to all taxing entities that levy Ad Valorem or special assessment taxes. The Treasurer is also the Investment Officer for the county.
The Treasurer is an agent of the Kansas Department of Revenue, Division of Vehicles and is responsible for the Auto Tag offices.
Tax bills are mailed on or soon after November 15th. The first half payment is due by December 20th. If taxes are not paid by this date interest begins to accrue. The second half payment is due by May 10th of the following year. No reminder notices are sent for second half payment. If personal property, oil and gas taxes are not paid by December 20th, the full tax amount plus interest becomes due. If real estate taxes are not paid in full by May 10th of the following year, the full amount plus interest becomes due. There is no longer an option of paying half.
If real estate taxes remain unpaid for three years, the property is subject to tax foreclosure by the County and may be sold at public auction. Personal property taxes that remain unpaid are turned over to the County Sheriff for collection. Delinquent real estate tax records are published in the official county newspaper (as designated by the Board of County Commissioners) for three consecutive weeks in August. Delinquent personal property tax records are published in the official county newspaper (as designated by the Board of County Commission) for three consecutive weeks in October.
