HUMAN RESOURCES REVISED EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK:
Liz Schwatken, Human Resources Director, presented the final copy of the employee handbook as revised with the changes as discussed with the Board of County Commissioners and approved by the Board. The following action was taken:
ACTION: A motion was made by Commissioner Fowler to adopt and approve the changes to the Montgomery County Employee Handbook as revised March 24, 2008. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Lewark-Wood.

COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS BID OPENING FOR LAPTOP COMPUTERS:
Kurtis Simmons, Community Corrections Director, was present for the bid opening for two (2) laptop computers for his department. The bids were as follows:
Computer Generation, Independence, KS $3,052.00
Dell Online Sales $3,239.80
ACTION: A motion was made by Commissioner Tucker to accept the low bid from Computer Generation, Independence, KS for two (2) laptop computers for Community Corrections in the total amount of $3,052.00. Debit Community Corrections Fund. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Lewark-Wood.

CLASS LTD UPDATE AND LETTER OF SUPPORT TO KANSAS STATE BOARD OF TAX APPEALS:
Jan Bolin and Phillip Chappuie representing CLASS LTD met with the Board and presented information on grants received to start a glass recycling project. The project is now in operation. They also presented statistics on wages and employment numbers in the counties served.
A letter of support was requested from the Board of County Commissioners to the Kansas Board of Tax Appeals for the purpose of seeking a tax exemption for their Coffeyville Service Center. The following action was taken:
ACTION: A motion was made by Commissioner Fowler to submit a letter of support for CLASS LTD to the Kansas State Board of Tax Appeals for the purpose of seeking a tax exemption for the Coffeyville Service Center. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Lewark-Wood.

Robert Bever, Public Works Coordinator, met with the Board to present the weekly written report and open bids for dump trucks and monitoring wells. Bids were as follows:

The items discussed in the weekly written report were as follows: Update on County Road 5300 mile 4 Coffeyville Wal-Mart project (30 of road and KDOT does not want the right-of-way); Discussed Westfall Brothers LLC wanting a road worked on which would be CR 1150 mile 24; Requested consideration to bid chemical for bare ground spraying and to bid road paint, beads for stripping; Major bridge replacement status; Building Maintenance discussed security doors in Department of Corrections; and requested a ten minute executive session. As a result of this report, the following action was taken:

SHERIFF VEACH COPIER RECOMMENDATION:
Sheriff Veach recommended purchasing the copier from Modern Copy, Iola, KS in the amount of $2,000.00 which was not a bid received in time for the bid opening but was given after all bids had been opened and announced. The decision on the bids was placed on hold until the next meeting.
