The Board of County Commissioners, three members and the County Clerk present, met in regular session at 6:00 PM at the Sycamore Township Hall, Sycamore, Kansas

CALL TO ORDER:  Commissioner Mattix.

INVOCATION:  Group singing God Bless America

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:  Commissioner Lewark-Wood.

TOUR OF SYCAMORE FOR CULVERTS AND WORK NEEDED:

 

A tour of culverts and work needed in Sycamore was conducted.  The Board of County Commissioners, County Clerk, Emergency Preparedness Director, Public Works Coordinator and several affected residents participated in the tour.  The tour was from 6:10 PM to 6:30 PM.

 

Transportation for the tour was provided by Richard Catron.

DISCUSSION FOLLOWING TOUR ON REPAIRS NEEDED:

 

The drainage problem was discussed.  Drainage is very much needed along Summit Street.  Damaged culverts were a topic of discussion.  The Board discussed the possibility of private contractors in the summer to work on culverts and cleaning of ditches.  No action was taken at this time.

CHERRYVALE TRUCKING FIRM ACCESS TO COUNTY ROADS:

 

Becky Blaes, Cherryvale, Kansas and other residents, presented a letter to the Board discussing the problems with road access if a trucking firm is operated along Maple St. on the West city limits of Cherryvale.  The street is the dividing line for city and county.  She also presented a petition requesting Truck Traffic Signs limiting weight at Third and CR 5350 and Maple Street with the second sign Martin Street to Third Street and CR 5050 from Hwy 169 East to CR 535 and South to Main.  The following action was taken:

 

ACTION:  A motion was made by Commissioner Tucker to authorize the Public Works Department to erect Truck Traffic Signs with weight limits at Third and CR 5350 and Maple Street with the second sign Martin Street to Third Street and CR 5050 from Hwy 169 East to CR 535 and South to Main.  The motion was seconded by Commissioner Lewark-Wood.

PUBLIC WORKS: 

 

Barbara Curtis, Public Works Coordinator, presented a written report to the Board.  The following items were discussed:  Streets in Sycamore; Passing zone on the dam; Review of county insurance policy on structures and contents;  GIS System; and Landscaping on North Side of Courthouse and sidewalk repair.  As a result of the report, no action was taken at this time.

 

The proposed GIS System was discussed with a possibility of encumbering part of the funds to complete the system from 2005 with the remainder of funds from the 2006 budget.  The Board was receptive to this possibility but no decisions were made at this time.  Cost estimates and further discussion will be needed.
