March 21, 2005

 

The Board of County Commissioners, three members and the County Clerk present, met in regular session at 9:00 AM to proceed to a road viewing to convene at 9:30 AM.

ROAD VIEWING:

Commissioner Mattix called the meeting to order at the road viewing site.  Those present for the viewing were:  Board of County Commissioners, County Clerk, Barbara Curtis, Vasco Brown, Brian Rothgeb and Irene Raymond.

 

There being no public opposition to the road closing, the following action was taken:

 

ACTION:  A motion was made by Commissioner Lewark-Wood to vacate the following portion of CR 337 as follows:  A portion of Road 337, as described in Road Record Book 2, Page 331 in the Montgomery County Public Works Office and more particularly described as follows:

 

 

Beginning at the Southeast Corner of Section 11 and the Northeast Corner of Section 14, Township 31S, Range 14E of the 6th Principal Meridian, Montgomery County, Kansas; thence west 5,400 feet more or less to the east right-of-way line of County Road 2300 between Section 10 & 15, Township 31S, Range 14E  and there ending.

 

 The above-described Road having a 40 Foot Right-of-Way.

 

Motion was seconded by Commissioner Tucker.

HEARTLAND PAYMENT SYSTEM – PAYMENT BY CREDIT CARD INFORMATION:

 

Midge Barley of Heartland Payment Systems, Cleveland, Ohio, presented information on Credit Card Processing for county government.  This system is mainly used by County Treasurer’s for tax collection.  Ms. Barley left information on the system with the Board.  There is no interest for this service at this time.

PUBLIC WORKS:

 

Barbara Curtis, Public Works Coordinator, presented the weekly written report.  The following items were discussed:  Road and Bridge work schedule; Dust control program; Major Bridge Replacement Status;  and Household Hazardous Waste collection day.

 

A “thank you” note was received by Pubic Works for road work.  The note was from Mrs. E. M. Frazee, Coffeyville, Kansas.

DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS – ROBERT BOOTH – SALARY INCREASE REQUESTS:

 

Mr. Bob Booth, Department of Corrections Administrator, presented requests for two (2) officers to be increased due to an employee being off on sick leave and more duties being assumed.  He requested Rona Kustanborter be increased to $11.00 per hour and Kathy Carpenter be increased to $8.57 per hour.  The following action was taken:

 

ACTION:  A motion was made by Commissioner Tucker to approve salary increases for Rona Kustanborter to $11.00 per hour and Kathy Carpenter to $8.57 per hour in the Department of Corrections due to increased work load created by an employee being on sick leave.  These increases will be effective 3-19-05.  Motion was seconded by Commissioner Lewark-Wood.

HUMAN RESOURCES – EMPLOYEE BENEFIT RESOURCES (IDENTITY THEFT):

 

Mr. Craig Sangster, representing Employee Benefit Resources and Liz Schwatken, Human Resources Director, presented information on Identity Theft Insurance available to employees.  This would be a payroll deduction upon request by the employee.  No action was taken at this time.

OTHER COUNTY BUSINESS:

 

  1. Request by Betty Hann for a new crock pot.  Request approved.
  2. Discussed County Auction.  Bid requests will be mailed to auctioneers along with a list of items to be sold.
